Departments at Mason may place holds on a student’s account to prevent several enrollment-related functions, such as: registration, withdrawal, enrollment verification, ordering transcripts, and even graduation, until the hold is resolved. The purpose of a hold is to direct attention to the need to resolve a critical issue, of which the student should already be aware. To view existing holds in Patriot Web, students should select the Student Services tab, then Student Records, View Holds.
The list below identifies some of the most common holds that students may receive, the actions they prevent, and how to resolve the hold.

Further information: Students with an advising hold for returning from suspension should contact their major advisor or chssdean@gmu.edu with any questions. Students with an advising hold for completion of the Student Advising Meeting (SAM) form, or the Personal Academic Support and Success (PASS) program may contact chssadv@gmu.edu with any questions.
