I made the decision to enroll at George Mason University due to its outstanding criminology program and its convenient location in close proximity to the Washington, D.C., area. Being situated near the nation's capital will enable me to take advantage of exceptional networking opportunities and to acquire valuable hands-on experience in the field of criminology. My ultimate aspiration is to pursue a career in government, and I am confident that being based in the Washington, D.C., area will significantly contribute to the realization of this ambition.
Are there faculty or staff members who have made a difference thus far during your George Mason career?
During my first semester of college, I developed a deep passion for criminology and felt a strong desire to delve deeper into the subject matter. Eager to seek guidance and mentorship, I proactively requested a meeting with my CRIM 100 professor, Raymond Rowley, to discuss my keen interest in the field. For an hour and a half before class began, I expressed my enthusiasm for criminology and shared my thoughts on potential career paths within the field. Professor Rowley was incredibly generous with his time and insight, and I was elated when he not only acknowledged my dedication but also offered to provide me with a letter of recommendation for future government job applications. This unexpected offer not only boosted my confidence but also filled me with gratitude for the opportunity to further pursue my passion for criminology.
How do you hope to use your degree and studies in the future?
The education and experiences I have accumulated in the field have solidified my commitment to leveraging my knowledge and skills to positively impact public safety, law enforcement, and the pursuit of justice within the nation. My academic pursuits have furnished me with an extensive comprehension of criminal justice processes, honed my critical thinking abilities, and cultivated adept problem-solving skills. I am convinced that these proficiencies will be exceedingly advantageous in a federal law enforcement capacity.
