CHSS advisors win nominations and top advisor award

The Office of Academic Advising within Undergraduate Education held their annual Academic Advisor Awards Ceremony on May 2, 2023, during which academic advisors from across the university were recognized for nominations they received from undergraduate students and the crucial role that they play in student success.

We are proud to congratulate the five CHSS academic advisors on the “Top 10” list of advisors nominated for an award, and thrilled to recognize Elli Ambros, advisor in Criminology, Law and Society, as the recipient of the overall award for Academic Advisor of the Year!

CHSS advisors honored:

  • Elli Ambros, Department of Criminology, Law and Society, winner of Academic Advisor of the Year
  • Marty Abruzzo, School of Integrative Studies, Top 10 list of nominated advisors
  • Jada Crocker, Department of Criminology, Law and Society, Top 10 list of nominated advisors
  • Mary Getsey Bernier, Department of Economics, Top 10 list of nominated advisors
  • Kurt Lazaroff, School of Integrative Studies, Top 10 list of nominated advisors
  • Kristin Tyburczy, Department of Criminology, Law and Society, Top 10 list of nominated advisors

Each spring, CHSS advisors are well-represented in the nominations received from students for an advising award. This year was no different, with at least one advisor from every undergraduate program in CHSS receiving a nomination. Hundreds of comments were received from CHSS students across our majors, expressing appreciation for the care and advocacy demonstrated by our advisors, the skill with which they guide students through their degree programs, and the overall impact on students’ sense of belonging at Mason.

Congratulations again to Elli and to our Top 10 recipients!
