Advisor Development
There are multiple ways that CHSS academic advisors can advance their knowledge and engage further with the profession. Below are examples of opportunities both at Mason and through professional associations:
Formed in 2012, MAAN seeks to promote advisor communication, collaboration, and development. MAAN initiatives include:
- Campus-wide advisor listserv
- Mason Advisor Certificate (MAC) Program
- Learn Over Lunch (LOL) series
- Registration Awareness Week
- Advisor Mentorship Program (AMP)
The Higher Education Program in CHSS offers two graduate certificates, a master's program, and a specialization within the PhD in Education, in collaboration with the College of Education and Human Development. Courses can be taken in degree or non-degree status. Visit highered.gmu.edu for more information.
NACADA is a resource for academic advisors who are members and non-members alike. Mason is part of NACADA's Mid-Atlantic Region 2 and the Mason Academic Advisor Network has been an Allied member since April 2015.
A list of additional professional organizations for advisors and reasons to join can be found through the MAAN website.
